Jamsil Hangang Park is a riverside park in Seoul, Korea, located along the Hangang River between Jamsil Railway Bridge and Yeongdong Bridge. It sits near the Seoul Sports Complex (Jamsil Sports Complex), home to Seoul Olympic Stadium and Jamsil Baseball Stadium.
Though sitting in the heart of Seoul, the 4.8 km (3 miles)-long park spans 539,071 square meters (5.8 million square feet) and offers a peaceful escape from the city. It feels like a world away from the crowds, surrounded by nature.
The park is popular year-round for various recreational activities, including walking paths, nature areas, outdoor exercise facilities, picnicking, camping, swimming pools, bike rentals, volleyball courts, soccer fields, and more.
Located in Songpa-gu, the park offers excellent views of Hangang River and Lotte World Tower, about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) away.
What to See and Do at Jamsil Hangang Park
Picnicking

One of the most popular activities at Jamsil Hangang Park is picnicking. When the weather is nice, locals and visitors often enjoy a picnic on a mat or blanket in the park. Some even set up tables and tents.
Picnicking is a great way to enjoy the weather, take in river views, and relax with cold beer, soju, Korean snacks, and food like fried chicken and ramyeon.

With convenience stores like GS25 located in the park, buying supplies, food, and drinks is easy and affordable.
Nature Exploration Area

The Nature Exploration Area sits in front of the Jamsil Information Center, next to the Natural Water Playground. The area features 45 species of trees, totaling 2,030 trees, along with 80 species of perennials and a charming thatched-roof pavilion. It’s a great place to relax, explore, and escape the hustle of the city.

Jamsil Submerged Weir and Fish Ladder

Spanning across the Hangang River is a submerged weir, or a barrier built to control water flow and manage water levels. As weirs can block fish movement upstream or downstream, fish ladders allow fish to bypass the barrier.
The fish ladder originally found at the northern end of the Jamsil Submerged Weir caused problems for smaller fish species, disrupting the ecosystem balance between the upper and lower sections.
A new fish ladder built at the southern section of the weir has since fixed the issue. The new ladder features a gentle slope, enabling even small fish to move through. The ladder measures 4 meters wide (13.1 feet) and stretches 228 meters (748 feet).
In addition to the fish ladder, visitors will find an underwater ecology observatory along with an expanded observation deck to view the weir and fish ladder.
Fishing

Another popular activity at Jamsil Hangang Park is fishing. While tourists don’t often fish, you’ll see locals trying to catch fish. Common fish caught in the river include carp, eel, and mullet.
If you plan to fish, understand all rules, such as restricted areas, prohibited fishing methods, bait restrictions, and the limit of four fishing rods per person.

Natural Water Playground
Near the Jamsil Information Center is the Natural Water Playground, part of the redevelopment of the aging Jamsil Swimming Pool. The space now provides a place for both water play and relaxation.
The water playground requires an entry ticket from June to August. Entry includes access to the Wonder Pool, Joy Pool, and Children’s Pool. These pools offer a great way to cool off and enjoy the summer, which gets brutally hot and humid.
Other areas to explore here include the sand playground, grassy rest area, foot bath, forest trail, and Water Light Path (Mulbit-gil).

Future Marina

The government of Seoul has plans to build the largest marina in Seoul at Jamsil Hangang Park by 2026.
The new facility will accommodate 220 vessels, including large boats and yachts. With only 285 mooring spaces in Seoul and over 3,000 registered recreational watercraft, residents have relied on facilities in other cities.
The marina will also serve as a floating park and recreational zone, offering citizens a relaxing place. The park will feature cafes, restaurants, a hotel, and spaces for cultural performances
