Turret that protects fortress wall from invaders

Seosamchi (서삼치) is the western turret III. The structure is located between Seoporu (Western Sentry Post) and Seoammun (Western Secret Gate).

Seosamchi is a turret and is a section of the fortress that projects from the wall. It is named after a bird who has the ability to use camouflage to hide from the enemy.

These structures, ten in total, are placed along regular intervals along the walls of Hwaseong for better protection from invasions. They were used to attack unsuspecting enemy troops from above.
