Bukdongchi, the northeaster turret, is a section of the fortress that projects from the wall. It is located next to Bukdongjeokdae (Northeastern Gate Turret).

A chi is a section of the fortress that projects from the wall. Chi refers to a pheasant bird who has the ability to use camouflage to hide from the enemy.

These structures are placed along regular intervals along the wall of the fortress which were used to survey the surrounding area and attack unsuspecting enemy troops from above.

There are a total of ten of these structures at Hwaseong. They are used for protection from invaders.
